Department Of Health Information Management

The Department of Health Information Management was established in 2002 with the introduction of a Certificate Program in Health Information Management. In 2019, the department received full accreditation from the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN) to offer both the Professional Diploma (PD) and National Diploma (ND) programs.
Currently, the department offers Professional Diploma (PD), National Diploma (ND), and Higher National Diploma (HND) programs. These programs are fully accredited by both the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN).

To train competent, ethically grounded, and technology-driven Health Information Management professionals equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage health data, support evidence-based decision-making, and enhance the quality of healthcare delivery in Nigeria and beyond.

To be a leading center of excellence in health information management education, research, and practice, recognized for producing professionals who contribute meaningfully to national and global health systems through innovation, integrity, and service.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Professional diploma (PD)
– Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) credits including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and any two relevant science or social science subjects at not more than two sittings.
– Admission is subject to guidelines by the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN).
National Diploma (ND)
– Candidates must possess at least five (5) credits in relevant subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry or Physics, and any other relevant subject at not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB.
– Applicants are required to sit for and meet the cut-off mark in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as prescribed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Higher National Diploma (HND)– Applicants must possess a National Diploma in Health Information Management with a minimum of Lower Credit from a recognized institution.
– Candidates must have completed a minimum of one year mandatory industrial training (IT) or possess evidence of relevant work experience.
– O’Level requirements as stated for ND must be met.
– All applicants must also meet the departmental entry screening requirements.
